Lies & Liability
The Druids are a high-ranking professional class of the Elves. They are religious leaders, legal authorities, lore keepers, healers, and advisors, as well as poets, musicians, artisans and smiths. Most professionals and skilled people fall into their class, although being a Druid is a birthright alone. They are literate, but they hardly ever write their knowledge, they keep it secret and rarely share any of it, except to their apprentices. Drudic knowledge is passed down from master to apprentice through generations, in a oral tradition that protects their dearest secrets. For example, a smith Druid may have a special metalworking technique that is only known to his “line” of smiths. It is due to this secrecy that much of Elven technology was lost, as the greatest Druids were on Glashim and not Ronan.
In olden times and now, Druids are very respected, and are even exempt from taxes. They hold a lot of political power, and are so revered that the nobles defer to them. They have to power to ban people from religious rites, which is considered the most severe punishment in the isles.
